Unseasonable showers have hit millions of Australians on the east coast, bringing record-breaking May rain. A massive rain band has made its way to NSW and Queensland, dropping thunderstorms and flash floods onto parts of South Australia. The rain is unseasonal, as typically, this time of year is dry. Over the weekend, Port Lincoln in SA saw 33mm of rain in 24 hours, while Mount Isa in Queensland recorded 56mm, both record-breaking figures for May. The band hovering over NSW, Queensland, and Victoria has caused a soggy commute on Monday. Welcome showers are expected in the NSW northern tablelands, including Tamworth, which have been crying out for rain. Unseasonable showers are also expected in parts of Western Australia and the Northern Territory, clearing on Tuesday. The rest of northern and central Australia is expected to remain dry. After the rain band moves off the east coast on Wednesday, big waves and sunshine will return. Temperatures across most of the country are forecast to remain mild, with Darwin hitting 33C, Perth 26C, and Brisbane 25C on Wednesday. Sydney will reach 22C on Tuesday, Melbourne 17C, Adelaide 19C, and Canberra and Hobart 18C for the week. The mild temperatures are still a bit unseasonal, but not a huge cooling down.
