A$AP Rocky is making waves! His latest project, "Don't Be Dumb," is projected to dominate the charts, and the early sales figures are nothing short of impressive.
According to initial reports, A$AP Rocky is off to a strong start with "Don't Be Dumb." With the Billboard Hot 200 update approaching, the album is very likely to top the chart. Chart Predictions suggest the album is on track to move at least 200,000 units.
Breaking down the numbers, it's estimated that 70,000-90,000 units come from streaming equivalent albums (SEA), while a staggering 100,000 units are physical sales. This physical sales number seems to be boosted by a press release, which stated that Rocky had already sold 130,000 copies before the release day on January 16th, thanks to the variety of vinyl offerings.
With over 100,000 units translating to the 130,000 figure, and the digital sales floor at 70,000, Rocky is poised to surpass his previous debut numbers. Hip Hop All Day noted that the Harlem native's best first-week sales were for his 2015 album, AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP.
That fan-favorite project still achieved a respectable 146,000 units. For comparison, 2013's LONG.LIVE.A$AP sold 139,000 copies. TESTING from 2018, is in third place with 75,000, and his debut, LIVE.LOVE.A$AP from 2011, pushed 15,000 copies.
For "Don't Be Dumb" to potentially take the top spot is remarkable, especially since it's his first project in nearly eight years.
But here's where it gets controversial... Due to the constant delays and reported low demand in the months leading up to the release, many thought Rocky's comeback would be mediocre.
